Another pattern with curves? Yes, please! I absolutely love incorporating curves and circles into my quilts and reverse appliqué makes even small, tight curves so much more approachable.

When Benartex Fabrics asked me to participate in their spring block hop, I pulled this design straight from my sketchpad and got to work writing the instructions. Inspired by my love of the moon (you know I can't resist a good lunar theme!), naming this block Moon Bloom was an easy choice.
This block hop began as a celebration of 44 new colors in the Superior Solids line —which has now grown to 144 colors! I'm always drawn to bold, saturated paletts, so I paired a vibrant orange with cool blue-greens for a fresh modern pop.

Superior Solids Used:
• Harbor (3000B-7D)
• Teal (3000B-86)
• Sagebrush (3000B-3E)
• Gold (3000B-37)
• Celery (3000B-85)
Wouldn't this block also shine in Cranberry, Cypress, Geranium, and Ecru too?

Last week I was teaching my Pamela Mae pattern at a retreat at Stitchin’ Heaven and while chatting with everyone during a lunch break, I had a fun realization… it’s called Moon Bloom—why not add a floral?
So I wandered through Stitchin' Heaven's shop and found the perfect print: Minki Kim’s BloomBerry fabric. Minki has been my vendor booth neighbor at Road to California for the past two years and I’ve loved admiring her beautiful collections—so it felt extra special to incorporate one into this design.
I swapped out the Ecru in the original version and I’m completely in love with the result! I have 12 blocks nearly finished and can’t wait to show you how it all comes together—stay tuned.
And because this version is just too good not to share, we’ve curated kits for you.

Curious about how these curves come together?
Reverse appliqué is truly a game changer—especially for tight, smooth curves. And here’s my best tip: use heavy-duty freezer paper. It’s much sturdier than the typical grocery store version and makes a noticeable difference in accuracy and ease. We've even laser cut the freezer paper templates for you saving you time! One of my favorite things about designing quilt blocks is seeing how others bring them to life!
Cath (@Cathlmaker) paired Moon Bloom with Space Race by Painted Sky Studio for Benartex, creating a playful, meaningful quilt—especially knowing many of her quilts are donated to children. This one is sure to bring smiles. I love her mock up and can't wait to see this finished quilt!

Amanda (@StitchyMomma) created a bold two-fabric version with plans to alternate fabrics for a checkerboard effect—such a fun and graphic idea!

Mel mixed prints with a solid for a vibrant, personality-filled take on the block. I love how playful her fabric choices feel.

And Nancy Vance stitched up a beautiful version using batiks—the texture and depth are just stunning.

The Benartex Block Hop still has two months of inspiration to go! If you haven’t signed up yet, now’s the perfect time—you’ll get access to all the blocks, ideas, and color inspiration along the way.
