Quilt Las Vegas is a quilt show put on by the Desert Quilters of Nevada and this was their 33rd year! The show included lots of gorgeous quilts, demos, baskets, opportunity quilts, and it was judged by Cindy Seitz-Krug, NACQJ Judge.
I am so thrilled that two of my students from my Many Moons classes entered their quilts! This first one was made by Suzanne Mayfield and quilted by Vicki Ruebel at Orchid Owl Quilts. Suzanne used heavy canvas in a modern print and did such an incredible job!
This second quilt was made by Colleen Hall Patton and she said, "I used a very small part of my taupe fabric collection in a class by Jen Wagner to learn her methods of piecing half circles. Curved piecing has been my bane since princess seams in junior high, but no longer." Colleen you nailed it! These curves are so smooth!
I was brave enough to have two entries in the show - my All Together Now quilt and two of my Mini Moons quilts and they both won ribbons!!! I entered quilts for the first time last year and while I didn't win ribbons, I listened to the judge, worked on what she said, and it paid off. Read more about the experience of quilts getting judged and read the judge's comments here.
In the fall of 2023, the Las Vegas Modern Quilt Guild completed the Windham Challenge from Modern Quilt Guild making quilts using a preselected combination of Windham fabrics and they were featured together at Quilt Las Vegas! My momma was happy to see them!
I love Quilt Las Vegas because it's in my home town and so all my quilting friends are there. I loved talking to them all and hearing about their quilts. The problem with talking though, is that I forget to take pictures. So here are some of their quilts from the show...
"Curvalicious" by Ruth Evans and quilted by Linda Natale won president's choice!
"Flower Mania" was designed, pieced, and quilted by Vicki Ruebel of Orchid Owl Quilts and was featured in American Patchwork and Quilting in 2023! Vicki is such an incredible longarmer and she loves to play with negative space.
I love the story behind "Colonial Ladies" pieced by Bart McGough and quilted by Vicki Ruebel. The blocks were made by Bart's great-great-grandmother in the early 1900's and he put them together into this quilt!
I got to enjoy "Perky Posies" pieced by Bridget Willis and quilted by Lin Zhao during the entire show because it was hung across from my vendor booth!
"Christmas Tree Pass" was designed, pieced, and quilted by Bibi Bellotto. Her judge's choice award was well deserved for this fun creative quilt!
"Mama's Heart" was designed, pieced, and quilted by Theresa Caselman in memory of her mom who loved watercolor quilts. This quilt took second place in it's category but also won best embellishment and from this close up photo, it's obvious why.
"Boho Heart My Way!" pieced by Michelle Benedict and quilted by Louise Davenport had cute puppies hiding in it!
And of course I couldn't have done the show without my amazing mom, Pam helping me in my booth! Doesn't she look so cute in that pink blazer?
I love Quilt Las Vegas and can't wait to see what next year's show brings. What was your favorite part of this year's show? Let me know in the comments below.
